The Criminal Justice Workers Union Executive Committee welcome the announcement by the Prime Minster Rishi Sunak to accept all the Prison Service Pay Review Body recommendations from their report 2023.
The full report has now been released, below are the key recommendations accepted for operational Prison Service staff which are effective of 1st April 2023.
Fair and Sustainable National Band 2 (OSG) base pay spot rate will increase by £2,000. This award to be consolidated and pensionable.
Fair and Sustainable National Bands 3 and 5 base pay points and Band 4 spot rate be increased by 7%, as set out in Appendix D. This award to be consolidated and pensionable.
Fair and Sustainable Bands 7 to 11 base pay minima and maxima, and spot rates be increased by 5%. This award to be consolidated and pensionable.
Closed grade staff who would not financially benefit from opting into their equivalent Fair and Sustainable grade receive a non-consolidated, non-pensionable payment of £1,500.
Care and Maintenance of Dogs allowance be increased by 7% to £2,604 per annum to those with responsibility for a single dog. We further recommend that the rate for multiple dogs is set at 25% above the single dog allowance rate.
Despite welcoming the announcement to accept all recommendations by the Prison Service Pay Review body the CJWU are disappoint not to see any recommendation to increase the Payment Plus and OSG overtime rates or an increase in the unsociable hours allowance.
