Job description
 
The Criminal Justice Workers Union are seeking application for 2 Full-time Trade Union Officials.  The successful candidate will report directly to the President and General Secretary, you will be required to offer advice, support and represent CJWU members in their workplace, as well as other essential duties within the union.  You will be required to offer support to the executive committee and attend executive committee meetings biweekly, these positions will not form part of the executive committee and will not have any voting rights.    You will need use of your own vehicle or be able to use public transport, a mobile phone and IT equipment will be provided by the union.  Expenses to cover travel and overnight accommodation if you are required to be away from home whilst carrying out the work of the union will be paid for in line with the CJWU expenses policy.

 Responsibilities   
 

The successful candidate will be responsible for –

Provide trade union representation to CJWU members in their workplace

Work in partnership with our administrator to offer advise and support to CJWU members.

Communicate with Criminal Justice sector organisations/leaders regarding members representation.

Update and promote the CJWU via our social media accounts. 

Attend CJWU Executive Committee meetings.

Assist with members legal applications. Undertake administrative duties when required.

Any other reasonable request to support furthering the unions aims or to comply with trade union legislative measures.
 

Essential Experience
 

Knowledge of trade union processes and procedures

Experience of offering trade union representation.

Knowledge of ACAS guidance and workplace rights and working arrangements


The successful candidate will be expected to predominantly work from home.  You will be required to travel to CJWU members workplaces, using your own vehicle or public transport, to offer trade union representation.  You will be provided with a mobile phone, IT equipment, travel expenses and overnight accommodation inline with CJWU expenses policy.

Salary advertised is based on a 39-hour working week; however, as an equal opportunities employer we welcome applications from candidates who wish to work part-time or job share.  In these instances, the salary will be pro-rata according to hours worked.

 

This position is for an initial 12-month fixed term contract.  Employment/Position will be reviewed after 12 months.

 

Annual Leave

You will receive 25 days annual leave, in addition to Bank Holidays in England.  5 days annual leave will be required to cover the Christmas period.  Annual leave will be authorised by the President or General Secretary.
